A stiff battle between giants Lukanga and Uganda Peoples Defence Forces will be the highlight of the Rio National Open boxing Championship semi-finals today.

By press time, UPDF had taken over the lead from defending champions Lukanga with six fighters in the penultimate stage.
Lukanga, captained by the flamboyant Zebra Ssenyange, were a man less than the soldiers.

Featherweight Aldina Muzei was one of UPFDF’s winners on a day when he beat Rogers Isiko.

Fate can be cruel as Bosco Kato, winner by a shocking knock-out the previous day, found out at Lugogo.

Kato, who battled from behind to secure victory on Wednesday, lost in almost similar circumstances last evening.

He was at one stage leading by eight points only to wither as COBAP’s Tony Mukiibi made a late surge.

Welterweight Michael Obin, a younger brother of Commonwealth featherweight champion Jackson Asiku, was also in superb form easily securing a semi-final berth with a commanding 20-7 win over Oscar Binka.
