That was real kimansulo! But my intention is not to reveal my underpants; it was to make my fans happy. On stage, heat is intense and sometimes intolerable. Of course photographers get a field day. But it is not my fault!
But does your husband approve? Eeh! So much! Sometimes when he is the MC, he complements me saying: “Genda okube abaloggo; bookye!’ (Hammer them, especially the envious ones). He knows I am working. In fact, last Monday, when everyone was criticising me after Bukedde published my photos, he called to compliment me.
How do you feel? I didn’t know my skirt had gone up; I was also surprised to see the semi-nude photographs. But I was like, no problem; that is life. It was difficult to know whether the fans are excited over my kimansulo or the music. All you see is a happy crowd screaming ‘encore’ and assume they are happy about music. But I don’t like fans touching me; I am very careful when I am on stage. Off stage, I am strictly Mrs. Ndausi; no jokes.
Why have you retained a Muslim name yet he is a Christian? At my father’s home, I am called Faridah Zalwango. And Faridah has become a stage name. So, it is what I use for my career; in acting, radio and music. By the time we married, my name had become a brand. It became difficult to drop. So, I just added Ndausi, which, I believe, has spiced it up.
So, do you pray together? No. I come from a strict Muslim family; the Kakungulu family in Rakai. The issue of religion seriously rocked our affair. They have been on my case. We decided to marry but keep our faiths. I still go to the mosque and he goes to church. I took my vows in church and became Ndausi’s official wife. He is a prince and I am a princess, but we are not from the same clan.
Is religion the reason why you rarely move together in public? No! I am comfortable moving with him. It is he who does not like showbiz unless he is working as an MC. When he is not emceeing, he is in church and I am out acting or singing.
Any secrets for success in marriage? No secrets! Just respect each other’s interests. Most people think I bewitched Ndausi, but I assure you there is nothing like that in our marriage.
