NAMUTUMBA district council has is to hire two Kaliro district service commission officials to boost theirs, which comprises three members.

The motion, proposed by the district vice-chairman, Muslim Mutotoba, during a council meeting, chaired by the speaker, George Damba, recently, met stiff resistance from some councillors who claimed the move was unrealistic and was unrealistic and intended to waste resources.

The chief administrative officer, Margaret Wanyenze, said she had been advised by the ministry to find ways of expediting the staff recruitment exercise.

“We are working with only 9% technical staff and if we continue operating like this, we are likely to miss out on Government funds. We, therefore, decided to hire some people from Kaliro district to speed up the recruitment exercise,” she said.

But councillors Dennis Barwaniregha (Namutumba town council), Patrick Mutyaba (Ivukula) and Pande Basalirwa (Kibbaale) opposed the move.

Mutyaba wondered why Namutumba would seek services of people from Kaliro instead of recruiting its own staff.
Basalirwa said if the three-member district service commission was inefficient, it should be replaced.

The speaker later ordered voting on the issue. Four councillors supported the motion, one voted against it, while two absconded.
