SAUDI ARABIA-The religious police banned red roses for Valentine’s Day, forcing couples in the Muslim nation to think of new ways to show their love. The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and prevention of Vice ordered florists and gift shop owners in the capital Riyadh to remove any items coloured scarlet, which is widely seen as symbolising love. The day passed with couples fearing to wear red and end up in prison. Saudi Arabia has an austere form of Sunni Islam, which prevents unrelated men and women from mixing and bans women from driving.
Couple exchange fire, wife dies
US-Gary Dion, 37, picked up a quarrel with his wife Karen, 38, and ended up firing shots at each other. Police said Gary had withdrawn from the argument and was in the driveway when his wife shot him from a bedroom window upstairs. He retrieved his own gun fired back, killing her instantly. He was arrested but has not yet been charged as the investigation continues.
