PEARL of Africa Uganda rally champion Conrad Rautenbach will step up to a Citroen C4 WRC as the 2008 World Rally Championship heads to Mexico for the third round.

Zimbabwean Conrad, the 2006 British Junior Champion and the reigning African Rally Champion, has been campaigning in a Citroen Xsara so far this year, with mixed results.

Following a successful test in the south of France last week, the 23-year-old is looking forward to his first gravel event of 2008.

“It suits my driving style more. It is quite a different animal to the Xsara but I am confident that a combination of a good setup and going to gravel, a surface I am more familiar with, will help me adjust to the new car,” Conrad said in statement emailed to The New Vision yesterday.

Conrad is planning to contest the full World Rally Championship with Citroen Sport Technology.
