Isingiro district head office works begin

CONSTRUCTION work on the new Isingiro district headquarters at Ishozi has begun. The Inspector General of Government, Justice Faith Mwondha, recently halted activity at the site, saying the land was acquired fraudulently.

CONSTRUCTION work on the new Isingiro district headquarters at Ishozi has begun. The Inspector General of Government, Justice Faith Mwondha, recently halted activity at the site, saying the land was acquired fraudulently.
Pascal Gakyaro, who is the director of Alpha Gama Engineering Services that is undertaking the work, told district leaders at the ground-breaking ceremony that the work would cost sh996m.
“Isingiro will soon stop renting buildings for offices. In six months, we shall have handed over this block,†he said.
A few days after receiving Mwondha’s letter, the local leaders visited President Yoweri Museveni at his home in Rwakitura over the matter.
He gave them a go-ahead to proceed with the work.
The district chairman, Ignatius Byaruhanga, said they were delighted to see that after waiting for so long, the work had started.
But he asked the contractor to use good materials to contruct long-lasting building for the new district.
The chief administrative officer, Joseph Byarugaba, announced that water coverage had increased.
He said they had constructed 314 water tanks to stem water scarcity.
Isingiro district that has a high cattle population is very dry. Pastoralists frequently have to move for many miles in search of water and pasture for their animals.
