THE National Fisheries Resources Research Institute in Jinja will soon get a new boat to replace the old outdated one, writes Esther Mukyala.

The European Union has pledged to provide the vessel. The $800,000 (sh1.3b) boat would be used to facilitate research on Lake Victoria.

The old MV IBIS vessel that is used for deep water work was bought in 1967.

The chairman of the research institute’s board, Christopher Dhatemwa, told MPs on the committee of agriculture, animal industry and fisheries who visited the school last week that the new vessel was expected this year.
