JINJA municipal council has signed an agreement with the municipality of Skelleftea in Sweden.

The ceremony took place in the mayor’s chambers and was witnessed by municipal councillors, technical staff and the Swedish delegation on Thursday.

Jinja mayor Muhammed Baswale Kezaala signed for the district, while AnnChristin Westerlund, the chairperson of Skelleftea municipality, signed on its behalf. Kezaala said the partnership would help develop Jinja.

“This agreement aims at promoting peace and understanding. It will benefit our communities through cooperation,” he said.
He asked the staff to identify projects which Skelleftea could support.

The parties agreed to exchange information on environmental management and physical planning, education, culture and economic development through promotion of tourism, trade and industry. Issues of gender and children’s rights would also be taken into account in every aspect of the partnership.

Westerlund hoped that the partnership would mutually benefit both parties. “We are aiming for a long-term relationship and this agreement will be reviewed once every three years.”
