KAMPALA residents woke up on to a group of people running past their homes on Sunday March 2. To many, any race involving people running on the roads is the Kampala International Marathon and many wondered about the poor publicity this time round.

What they did not know is that there is another race annual race since 1999 that is organised by the Kampala Hash House Harriers. The race is tagged the Hashers’ Seven Hills run.

The race, which brings together expatriates, ambassadors, senior civil servants, business people and chief executives started from Nsambya Youth Sharing Hall and covered the hills of Kibuli, Nakasero, Old Kampala, Namirembe, Rubaga, Lubiri and back to Nsambya.

However, many decided to walk the route and by the time they got to the finishing point, the recording desk had already been removed.

They were welcomed by volunteers who gave them mineral water.
And in line with promoting health, fruits were given to the runners on arrival, before they queued up for their breakfast- a cup of tea, two sausages and an egg.

Then there was the usual party of the hashers- a bottle of beer for the drinkers, who did not mind starting a Sunday morning that way.

By the time the hash was over, new friendships had been established as the runners drove off to their respective homes.
