The cultural leader of the Bakonzo and the Bamba has defended President Yoweri Museveni over the Government’s delay to recognise their kingdom locally known as Obusinga bwa Rwenzururu.

Inaugurating the Obusinga bwa Rwenzururu recognition council at his palace in Kasese town on Sunday, the Omusinga, Charles Wesley Mumbere, blamed the delay on what he called undeserving divisions among the subjects of the cultural institution.

“We cannot blame Museveni over the delay by the Government to officially recognise the obusinga.

“We are to blame because we have been divided over the issue. But now that we are united, the Government will soon take action,” he said.

“If President Museveni had a problem with the Obusinga, he would not have appointed a ministerial committee that was headed by the Minister of Public Service, Henry Kajura, to gather more facts about our demands and later order the NRM cadres in Kasese to make final findings on the matter,” Mumbere told the Ekyaghanda (Parliament).
