GAMES - AKII-BUA and Kakungulu halls won the inaugural Ndejje University Inter-hall woodball championship that ended over the weekend. Action at the University’s Main Campus. Akii Bua Hall collected 193 points to grab the men’s overall trophy ahead of Kakungulu (184) and Mutesa (224) while Kakungulu proved a class apart in the women’s category of the competition.

Jinja faces
disqualification
SOCCER - National Council of Sports (NCS) has threatened to disqualify Jinja district from the Coca-Cola Cup for fielding Jinja SS in the on-going qualifiers. Jinja SS, who hosted the annual tournament last year, were handed a three-year ban last year after its students roughed up referee Peter Kitegana during the quarter-finals. NCS official Nicholas Muramagi yesterday said council had ‘disturbing' reports that Jinja SS were drawn in the qualifiers. "To enter a banned school in the competition is against the rules. Jinja will automatically be disqualified," Muramagi stressed. Arua will host the finals of the national post primary schools event next month.

SOCCER - Mpumudde’s campaign in the Jinja Division One league got a setback at home when Wanyange held them to a 1-1 draw on Saturday. Abedi Balamu opened for the visitors before Abedi Said levelled.

Samona boosts

POOL - The game of pool received a big boost after cosmetics manufactures, Samona Products, gave the Pool Association of Uganda sh10m to run the national league. Samona Products proprietor Salongo Kasawuli handed over the cheque to association chairman Bob Menani Sunday at Wakaliga. Samona also has a club participating in the 20-club strong league that started last month. Menani said sh6m will go on operations and the rest on awards.
