This was my first time on a mystery date but I didn’t consider it awkward. I was ready for anything. I found Leyla waiting for me. She welcomed me with a wide smile that showed me she was happy to meet me. When she told me she was a musician, I liked it because I am interested in music. I like going for shows. I discovered that we share hobbies like meeting new friends and clubbing. We had fun, ordering for whatever we wanted. She offered to train me in singing and said she would compose a song and give me a part to sing so that I can become a star like her.
I had somewhere else to go but she convinced me to accompany her to the place where she was going to perform from that night. I watched her performance and she was good.
Did you discuss anything about love?
Yes. I asked her if she had a boyfriend and she said there is a guy she calls her boyfriend. I also have a girlfriend. So we agreed to be friends.
Aren’t you scared of her boyfriend?
We discussed it. I asked her what he would do if he saw us in The New Vision. She said she would explain to him and whatever his reaction, she won’t be bothered since she is mature and knows what is good and bad. Since she wasn’t scared, why should I be?
How do you think your girlfriend will take this?
I will explain to her. It is something easy and I hope she understands. After all, we aren’t yet married. But I know she’ll take it easy since she trusts me.

What did you see as an eye sore in Leyla?
Her hairstyle wasn’t fit for a dancehall musician. It doesn’t symbolise her as a dance hall artiste. I tried to convince her to change to dreadlocks, but she said she does other work besides singing and her boss may not take her seriously if she wore dreadlocks.
What next?
She promised to visit me at work. We could link up and become close friends and even sing together. I may also become a star like her.

After the performance, we continued to Bat Valley, where my sister was. Coincidentally, that was also his destination. He met his friends there.
