RONALD Ssebuguzi is oozing with confidence after taking advantage of the long Easter weekend to do thorough route reccing of this weekend’s Mbarara rally. Ssebuguzi, who returned from Mbarara on Easter Monday, believes he will put up a good show having crammed every inch of the route.

“I know where to expect potholes and sharp corners. I am looking forward to enjoying the race and hopefully win the rally. A huge portion of the route is smooth and I think my Mitsubishi will do a good job,” Ssebuguzi remarked.
Ssebuguzi welcomed the challenge of Jas Mangat in a powerful Subaru Impreza.

“That’s what I want. It brings the best out of me. I am ready for whoever comes my way,” the gigantic driver stated.

Jomayi Property Consultants funded the repair of Ssebuguzi’s Mitsubishi Evo 4, which he crashed in the MOSAC Sprint early this month.

The car is back on the road and the former national champion will go road testing this afternoon. The rally, organised by Mbarara Motor Club, has so far attracted 19 entrants including two female drivers.

The daring Susan ‘Super Lady’ Muwonge and Rose ‘Flying Chic’ Lwakataka will spice up the race. Cars will be flagged off at Lake View Hotel in Mbarara on Saturday and will head to Bushenyi for the first leg.

The second leg on Sunday will be concentrated in Mbarara district.
Lake View Hotel, Fire and Safety Appliances, Pelican Hotel, Packaging Technologies, Alpha Dairies and Neon City are sponsors of the event.

+ Last year’s rally champion Ponsiano Lwakataka has acquired a new Subaru Impreza N8 model for the this year’s National Rally Championship.

Lwakataka, who is on self-imposed leave as he awaits “better competition,” brought in the sh34m car on Easter monday.

According to Nasser Mutebi, a car dealer in Kampala who cleared the car from Japan: “It will require him to spend another 10,000 pounds (sh34m) to have it fully constructed into an FIA rally car.

“I have ordered for parts from UK like the rollcage, suspensions, sapguards and shock absorbers that are needed to convert the machine into a FIA standard one. I hope they will arrive in a week’s time,” said the two-time national rally champion (2005, 2007).
