GLASGOW - BADRU Lusambya has vowed to be crowned as the new king of Scotland. The 25-year-old may be Ugandan but insists any success will be for Scotland - the nation he has grown to love more than the land of his birth.

GLASGOW - BADRU Lusambya has vowed to be crowned as the new king of Scotland. The 25-year-old may be Ugandan but insists any success will be for Scotland - the nation he has grown to love more than the land of his birth.

He takes on Romanian Gheorghe Danut on Saturday at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre in Glasgow.

And with a professional record of 17 wins out of 17 – and 16 coming by way of a knock-out – few would ignore the boasts of the man named “Mr Crush”.

Scotland has not had an outright world champion since Scott Harrison was at his peak. Alex Arthur will get the chance to claim a crown when he faces Joan Guzman for the WBO super-featherweight title in Edinburgh in May.

And Lusambya hopes it won’t be too long before he will be ready to take on the world for his adopted homeland. He said: “I love Scotland and wanted to come here to fight. Being a world champion for Scotland is my dream.

“I want to become a champion of Scotland and the best in the world. I want Braveheart Promotions to push me to a world title. I’ll be ready for that next year,” said the boxer who walked out on his promoters Big Strikers in Uganda to follow his dream to the UK.

He hopes Scottish fight fans take to him.
