PRIME Minister Apolo Nsibambi has clarified that the Cabinet has not yet agreed to recognise the Bakonzo-Bamba kingdom (Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu).

In a letter addressed to the gender, labour and social development minister, Syda Bbumba, Nsibambi said yesterday that the issue was still before the Cabinet.

“In my letter ref ADM/183/01 dated 17, March 2008, I wrongly said that cabinet agreed to recognise the Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu cultural institution.

“I wish to point out that although the matter is before the Cabinet, it has not been discussed. It is on the Cabinet agenda.

“However, you should still deal with the issues I raised so that they may be considered by the Cabinet when it is discussing the recognition of the Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu.”

The issues include settling Prince Charles Wesley Mumbere’s education bills and allowing him to access the sh5m given to cultural leaders per month.

Others are the handover of four houses and plots of land in Kasese town, which were given to the kingdom by former president Milton Obote.
