A WOMAN who was kidnapped 26 years ago and taken to Sana City in Yemen as a child slave has contacted her family, but cannot afford to return home, reports Harriette Onyalla.

Florence Kampi, whose name was later changed by her captors, was kidnapped in Busembatya (now Namutumba district) in Iganga in 1982 at her father’s funeral.

Her mother Sesiriya Biryeri said years of searching for the child yielded nothing and funeral rites were performed as relatives concluded she was dead.

However, in a letter in 2001, Kampi asked her mother why she had given her away into slavery where she had been denied a formal education. The letter only got to Biryeri in 2005.
