MUCHOMO, (roasted meat), is fancied by many people. However, the hassle of preparing it, for instance, lighting a charcoal stove or using firewood and the smoke puts many people off.
With the innovation of electrical and gas barbecue grills, all that is now history. A barbecue grill roasts all types of meat and vegetables using heat produced from the main element.
The grill has an adjustable rack onto which the meat is placed either directly or on skewers.
John Mugaya a sales executive at Game Stores, Lugogo Mall says: “To avoid oil and fats dripping onto the coils, the grill has got a reflector dish (tray) that collects the oils and fat.â€
However, Mugaya advises that to make the cleaning of the reflector dish easier, you can wrap it in aluminum foil. Fred Kabuye, a chef at Fat Boys Mexican restaurant, Kisementi, says: “Using a barbecue grill is a healthy and cleaner way of making a barbecue without having your meat burn.â€
The grill has knobs for regulating the heat. However, Kabuye cautions that regulating the heat is not enough; one has got to turn the meat from time to time to avoid burning.
Adong Pauline, a sales executive at Kyalimanya Limited on Luwum Street says: “Unlike the ordinary charcoal grill, the electric grill is portable and can be used outdoors since barbecue is about roasting meat in an open placeâ€.
However, Adong cautions, users should pay attention to the correct voltage (230v) of the socket used outdoors and that the socket must be suitable for the appliance with the rated input of 2,000 watts.
Gas barbecue grills are also available at Game. Mugaya explains that a gas grill is convenient and economical especially for outdoor parties.
However, he advises that while using the gas grill for parties away from home, should ensure that the gas is enough for the grilling.
While shopping for an electric or gas barbecue grill, Adong advises, always test it to ensure it is in good condition.
An electricl barbecue grill will cost you sh70,000 at Kyalimanya Limited while a gas grill cost between sh660,000 to sh694,000 at Game Stores.
