SINGER Juliana Kanyomozi makes her acting debut in a Kampala-based feel-good film, Kiwani The Movie, which premieres tomorrow at the Commonwealth Resort, Munyonyo. She plays a corporate lady looking for love on the Internet. Nigel Nassar talked to her. Excerpts
Have you looked for love on the Internet before?
Not in real life. But in the movie, yes. Are you suggesting that I am lonely? That was mere acting; nothing in reference to me is real, save for being a single mother.
How was it like acting for the first time?
I freaked out. I felt so nervous at first, but somehow, I found my way around it and ended up enjoying it. In fact, I look forward to doing it again.
So do we see you dogging music and taking on acting full time?
Of course, not. Music is where my bread is buttered. But I can do both if it turns out that I am good like some people say — can you imagine I am already receiving calls from movie-makers asking me to take roles in theirs?
Anything you found annoying on the set?
Yeah — having to do one thing over and over again. I am used to stepping into the studio, screaming into the microphones and an hour later, a song is ready. But in this business, you have a lot of cut-cut, repeat, and I am-not-impressed. They drain the day lights out of you, yet you are also sweating from the strong beam of lights.
Movie directors can be such a pain, how did you find Henry Ssali?
A funny chatterbox. He can talk all day and not run out of humour — no wonder the dialogue he created in the script is so hilarious. I cannot wait to see the movie he pieced up. I found him fun to work with. No director would be a pain if you follow instructions and are always punctual.
How much did he pay you?
He paid me what I asked for. Do not worry about the figure.
How do people get tickets to attend the premiere?
Tickets are on sale at Nando’s. Each goes for sh50,000, and not sh30,000 as earlier published.
Any surprise for the premiere, a new catch or something?
Just watch the space with your camera ready. I will not pre-empt the surprise.
