TORORO’S Fame track and field club has recruited athletes to replace Stephen Odwar and Samuel Egadu, who decided to go individual after last year’s All Africa Games.

In a move that was aimed at keeping the club afloat, the new athletes have been fixed on scholarships in neighbouring secondary schools where they can be monitored by the club’s coaches.

Among the new recruits is former Gulu’s star Agnes Aneno, 17, the national youth champion in the 200m and 400m. She has been fixed at Rock High School for her senior four.

The club has also recruited Prossy Nalukanga, 17, the former sports prefect for Dabani Girls. Nalukanga also plays football and netball. She is being trained to become a middle distance runner.

On the list is also 18-year-old Edgard Paddy, an upcoming 400m runner. He has a personal best of 51.3 seconds.

“We are using the limited sources we have to produce international stars for the future,” said club coach James Mugeni.
