In a statement, the army spokesman, Maj. Paddy Ankunda, said the new majors are Alfred Kiwongu, Deus Romed Ndyabagye, Peter Akakunda, Edward Mutawe, Benard Tuguma and David Opero.

Others are Bob Ogik, Pius Olinga, Isaac Ojwiyo Muwa, Sam Kiirya, Richard Walekala, Mukata Kasaija, Kakuru Kato, and Moses Mwesigwa.

On October 13, 2007, Museveni promoted 30 UPDF officers while 52 officers were promoted on February 20, 2008.

“Unlike in geography where the higher you go the cooler it becomes, in the army, the higher you go the hotter it becomes,” Ankunda said.

Most of the officers promoted in February were from the directorate of medical services and participated in the campaign to eradicate Ebola in Bundibugyo. Ten were medical doctors.Others promoted then were spokespersons of the various army divisions.
