KCC, SC Villa and Victors today battle in encounters with far reaching ramifications to their Super League title campaigns.
Any side that stumbles at Namboole could well forget its claim on the 2007-8 edition of Uganda’s most prestigious club title.
The spotlight will mainly be on the floodlight encounter between the Red Eagles and Villa in one of local football’s biggest rivalries.
“I have injuries but that shouldn’t be an excuse,†said Villa coach Asuman Lubowa, who will be out to improve on his 1-1 first round result to pile pressure on leaders Police FC.
Playmaker Stephen Bengo has what it takes to turn the game in the Jogoos’ favour. But their problem could be more psychological.
The Villa Park outfit might have what is arguably the most coherent side, but they are yet to show the meanness that had their predecessors winning the title a record 16 times.
Express might be out of the title race but coach Jimmy Muguwa is aware of the severe blow on the Wankulukuku side’s ego that defeat could bring.
Muguwa, who as a player won the league with UCB, yesterday sounded anxious for action. He underlined his strong belief in the early goal principle. “We shall go in for an early kill. That’s the best way of reducing pressure on my largely young side.â€
For KCC tactician George Nsimbe, maximum points will extend his unbeaten streak to seven matches and also keep table leaders Police and Villa in reach.
Victors coach Sula Kato on the other hand sees this match as an opportunity to get back into the title race. He bases his hope on Victors winning all their remaining matches and the other rivals faltering. Relegation-threatened CRO hosts Nalubaale.
