A TEACHER of Uganda Martyrs’ Senior Secondary School Namugongo was on Friday night murdered by gangsters.

Hillary Muhangi, 31, a teacher of English and Literature in English, was attacked on his way home. His head had five deep cuts.

Muhangi, a resident of Buloli zone, died in Mulago Hospital, where he was rushed by a colleague, Charles Turyahabwe.

Muhangi, was once a teacher at Vienna College Namugongo.
The grieving staff and students yesterday expressed bitterness at the refusal of the Police officers at both Kyaliwajjala post and Kira Police Division to respond to the incident when contacted.

The Police, mourners heard, declined to go to the scene, citing lack of manpower.

After assaulting Muhangi, the assailants used his mobile phone to call his friend, Aaron Waguma, a teacher of Vienna College, and told him to rush to the scene and save him.

Waguma and Matthew Okumu rushed to Kyaliwajjala Police post and then to Kira, where they received a cold shoulder, Kakiika Semwogerere, the headmaster of Vienna College, told mourners during a requiem mass at Namugongo yesterday.

Police chief Maj. Gen. Kale Kayihura ordered a hunt of the killers.

He asked detectives from the Criminal Investigations Department to back up Kira Police Division.

“I am sorry about the death. I will investigate if the Police refused to help.”

It emerged that Muhangi’s fiancee was planning to introduce him to her parents in June and their wedding was slated for August.

Namugongo head teacher J.C Muyingo asked: “Innocent and useful Ugandans are being killed, why? What wrong have we done? Who has the answer”

Muhangi will be buried at his father’s home in Ibanda district today.
