Pallisa district authorities will demolish dilapidated buildings in the town. The town clerk, Julius Epaju, on Friday told journalists that landlords had been given a 90-day notice to either renovate the building, or sell them to developers.

“If landlords refuse to comply, we shall demolish the buildings and they will meet the costs. Dilapidated structures give a bad impression to visitors yet we are striving to attract investors to the district,” Epaju said.

He added the majority of the old building, were located at strategic entry routes to the town, ruining the image of the area.

“The houses were built during the pre-independence era and have not been renovated since that time, ” Epaju said.

“These buildings have old iron sheet walls, while others have cracked walls. They can crumble in any time and harm the occupants. Besides, they pose a health risk to the people.”

Epaju said a team of health personnel and engineers would identify structures that would be demolished and those for renovation.

He urged lock-up owners to give their shops a facelift.
