IN the world of fashion, trends are ever changing, and it is up to a trendy individual to catch up with the changes. For men’s trousers, the flat-fronted (also known as pleatless) trousers are the thing in vogue.

These trousers come without pleats at the front, but rather a flat slope in the place of the pleats. They also do not have turn-ups at the bottom which are sealed off on the inside in a way similar to skirts.

As Solomon Kidega , a dealer in men’s wear at Mukwano Arcade explains, flat-fronted trousers are not a fresh trend on the Ugandan fashion scene.

They featured in now-olden designs in the previous century, such as the bell-bottom of the ‘70s, while in the last three years they have been steadily selling among the trend-conscious.

A typical pair of flat-fronted trouser is tight-fitting, and is made of material thicker than that of the ordinary trousers. The thickness helps keep the front of the trouser firm, as the pleats would have done, and it also enhances the tight-fit.

Flat fronted trousers can be bought from most of the shops that sell men’s clothes, such as Man About Town on Jinja Road and Perfect Designs at Maria’s Galleria.
They can also be got from the shops at Mukwano Arcade, in Kiyembe and stalls in at st. Balikuddembe (Owino).

The prices will vary according to where you buy, going at about sh15,000 downtown and sh40,000 uptown.
You can also have the trousers made to your specifications by a tailor.

The best tailors in this area can be found in Wandegeya and Kiyembe along Luwum Street.
