FEMALE rally driver Rose Lwakataka is the uganda telecom USPA sports personality of April. The sports journalists’ body yesterday voted Lwakataka for finishing as the best Ugandan driver at the KCB Pearl of Africa rally.

Lwakataka, making her debut in the event, finished seventh overall to earn National Rally Championship points.

At the utl sponsored USPA monthly meeting at Oasis restaurant in Lugogo, Lwakataka collected 510 votes to beat badminton player Edwin Ekiring (480) and footballers Robert Ssentongo (355) of KCC and SC Villa’s Stephen Bengo (350).
Lwakataka will formally receive her award at a function scheduled for Kampala later this week.

Ekiring, Africa’s number two player, was nominated for winning two bronze medals (singles and doubles) in an Olympic qualifier in Nigeria.

The International Badminton Federation will on May 10 announce a list of players who qualified for the Olympics due in Beijing in August.

Ssentongo was considered for the award after scoring seven goals to guide KCC to a nine-match unbeaten streak in the Super league.

Bengo has enjoyed good form with brilliant strikes for Villa and the Cranes in the inaugural Africa Nations Championships. KIU basketball side and KCC football club were commended for their solid winning runs in April.
