Buhweju, the forgotten county!

EDITOR—I have read about how investors have learnt about the gold deposits in Ibanda. Buhweju is a forgotten county which is there only to be exploited by politicians and investors.

EDITOR—I have read about how investors have learnt about the gold deposits in Ibanda. Buhweju is a forgotten county which is there only to be exploited by politicians and investors.

Much as the press is to blame for not making documentaries, Buhweju’s leaders are to blame too. With the largest deposits of gold in Uganda, Buhweju has no access roads to some places like Kyeyare and Kaniga.

It seems the presence of gold and obedience of voters have led to lack of social services! Wouldn’t the discovery of such a natural resource as gold, make the people of Buhweju proud?

I have also read about the disaster preparedness minister, Tarsis Kabwegyere supporting that of local government, Kahinda Otafiire, that no more districts should be carved from Bushenyi.

These are selfish interests at the cost of the underprivileged! Buhweju’s demand for a district status is basically in pursuit of development. I call upon the people of Buhweju to come together and fight for what we want.

We have MPs who don’t know what we want.
