Demand for power in Bujjowali has shot up

EDITOR—We refer to a letter by Dr Waiswa entitled, “What’s up Umeme?†published recently. Dr Waiswa was complaining about dim power supply in Bujjowali zone near Njeru, Jinja. Umeme is aware of the problem.

The customer demand for electricity in the area has rapidly exceeded the distribution network infrastructure supply. Umeme, as part of the greater national system refurbishment programme, is scheduled to upgrade the network in this area under the ongoing countrywide system refurbishment project.
This, however, has been hampered by wayleaves (passage of the power lines) issues with the landowners, which can only be resolved between the landowners and the customers before Umeme can carry out this job. On the billing query, we have checked in our billing system but cannot reconcile the figures mentioned in the letter.
We therefore request Dr Waiswa to get in touch with us on our contacts below with his account name and number to enable us help resolve the matter.
