Child electrocuted in Tororo
A SIX-YEAR-OLD boy died instantly when he stepped on a live electric wire as he was playing with his friends. Brian Okecho, the son of Julius Okecho of Rubongi in Tororo district, died on Sunday.

A SIX-YEAR-OLD boy died instantly when he stepped on a live electric wire as he was playing with his friends. Brian Okecho, the son of Julius Okecho of Rubongi in Tororo district, died on Sunday.
The boy and his peers had been sent to the shops to buy some items. On their way back, they engaged in a running competition during which Okecho stepped on the wire.
The deadly wire had killed a bull, two goats and four dogs in the last six months it had been lying on the road side at Rubongi trading centre.
The area LC1 chairman, Andrwe Okecho, said they had been pleading with UMEME, the electricity company, to remove the wire but nothing was done.
“On each of those occasions when the animals died, we rushed to the UMEME offices in Tororo to report, but nothing was done,†the LC1 boss said.
Tororo branch manager Jeyson Muhaze regretted the death of the boy but denied having known or received any complaint about the problem.
Muhaze and two of his staff were arrested over the tragedy but were later released on Police bond.
