A FORMER employee of Uganda Breweries (UBL) is to pay sh5m to the company for falsely suing them. Gilbert Afaro will pay the money as costs of the suit after a ruling by the Registrar of the Court of Appeal, Gladys Nakibuule Kisekka.

Cornelius Mukiibi, the UBL lawyer, had made an application to have the costs taxed after the Court of Appeal overturned the trial court’s judgment in which Afaro had been awarded sh22m.

The appellate court ruled that the trial court had failed to address its minds on the memorandum, which Afaro signed with UBL, as they compensated him sh18.6m. In 1998, he was involved in an accident while working. and sustained injuries.
