EDITOR — I am writing in reference to an article in Friday’s paper about an electrocution incident that claimed the life of a six-year-old child at Rubongi, in Tororo district.

Umeme deeply regrets this incident. We wish to clarify that that was the first time Umeme learnt of the downed electric conductor. Umeme immediately switched off the electric line to secure the area and prevent further safety risks.

It is, therefore, misleading for anybody to impute that Umeme had prior knowledge of the downed electric line in the area “for six months”. There is no record of any report to Umeme before the accident and no record of any alleged electrocution of animals at Rubongi, as purported in the article.

Umeme appeals to the public to report any cases of leaning poles, dangling or broken wires, sparking transformers or anything that could endanger lives. Please Call 0414 185185, 0312 185185 or 0752 185185.
