EDITOR — Two years ago, when the Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) was formed, few people imagined there would be a fundamental change.

However, there has been a dramatic change in the radio and television programmes.

The radio introduced more local language programmes, for example those in Kinubbi. The programmes are characterised by better researched, more innovative and more interactive concepts. Even UBC TV focuses on producing innovative programmes that educate, entertain and inform the public.

Last year, UBC TV was named by an international research company as the leading television station in Uganda.

UBC also partners with vital allies to strengthen its capacity. It is one of the initial members of The East African Public Broadcasters Association, an association of public broadcasting organisations from Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda. The association will help its members share information, expertise and experience in broadcasting while appreciating the convergence of information and communication technology in a globalised environment.

UBC is also an initial member of the African Broadcasters Media Partnership that brings together broadcasters all over Africa to create awareness on the social issues facing the African continent.

UBC remains in constant communication with public broadcasters around the world like BBC, SABC and Deutsche Welle to learn from their experiences.

In a broadcasting environment that is dynamic, the public will see UBC becoming more focused, efficient and reaching out to the Ugandan public.

UBC will also continue to pursue the mandate given to it by the Government and the people of Uganda of providing a reliable radio and television signal to every part of the country. In areas where the signal may not yet be received, be assured that the ground work has been done and UBC will be there soon.

Today UBC has achieved a lot; it is a broadcaster that is leading the way and helping in the change and modernisation of society.
