EIGHT people have been arrested in connection with defilement cases that were recorded between May 11 and 17 in Kampala.

In the latest incident, Ali Bagonza, 30, allegedly administered chloroform to a girl before defiling her at his home in Masanafu, Kampala suburb.

The Police said Bagonza met the teenager on a road and doused her with the substance that sent her to sleep.

“When the girl woke up in Bagonza’s house the next day, she was naked,” the Old Kampala Police station crime chief, Grace Akullo, said.

The victim, a student, left the house in Bagonza’s shirt and reported the matter to the Police. “We recovered the girl’s trousers from Bagonza’s vehicle.”

According to Akullo, defilement cases had shot up in her area, with 77 cases recorded since January.

In another case, a 17-year-old boy defiled a seven-year-old girl in a toilet at Bakuli, a city suburb.

According to the Police, the juvenile followed the girl to the toilet.

“Her parents got concerned and started looking for the girl. She later emerged from the toilet with the boy,” Kampala Extra Police spokesman imeo Nsubuga told journalists yesterday.

In another incident, a bodaboda cyclist, Kulait Nidula, reportedly defiled a Primary Six pupil in Lubya, Rubaga Division. “She was reported missing. When a search was mounted, the Police found her with Nidula in a kiosk,” Nsubuga said.

In a related development, Timothy Bwanika, 35, is accused of defiling a 17-year-old girl for two years.

Jimmy Kisembo, is said to have had sexual intercourse with a 16-year-old bar attendant in Nakulabye.

Meanwhile, a 17-year-old boy is accused of impregnating a Primary Five pupil, the Police added.

Asuman Kanyangire, 21, another bodaboda cyclist, is alleged to have defiled a 16-year-old girl in Nakulabye.

Another 17-year-old-boy reportedly had sex with a 15-year-old girl. “He was the victim’s neighbour. He went to the girl’s home at midday and defiled her,” Nsubuga told journalists yesterday.

Defilement, Akullo said, was more rampant in densely populated slums like Kisenyi, Nakulabye, Kawaala and Kasubi.
