Two UPDF soldiers have been arrested over the theft of cattle recovered during the disarmament exercise in the Karamoja sub-region.

Lt. Sam Omara, who heads Nadunget army detachment in Moroto, and an intelligence officer, only identified as Cpl. Odongo, allegedly connived to sell off four head of cattle at sh700,000.

“The owners of the cattle identified them as they were being sold at Moroto Market. The Police impounded the animals and handed them over to us. The suspects are being detained at Moroto garrison quarter guard cells,” Brig. Patrick Kankiriho, the 3rd Division commander, told The New Vision on Thursday.

Kankiriho said the two soldiers would appear before the division court martial this week.

In March, 10 UPDF soldiers, including a major, two captains and five lieutenants, were charged over the theft of cattle recovered during the disarmament exercise by the division court martial.
