REGIONAL Bus Services has started a daily trip to Juba from Kampala at a cost of sh75,000. “The bus leaves at 2:00am and reaches Juba at 4:30pm.The fare is sh75,000. A person needs sh5,000 on the Ugandan side and sh75,000 on the Sudanese border for the temporary travel document, which is valid for three months in Sudan,†an official of Regional Bus Services, Peter Atem Kuir, said.
He said if a person has a passport, it is stamped at the border for three months’ validity in southern Sudan. Kuir said the Ugandan currency is valid from the border to Juba.
Accommodation is available at different rates. Cheap accommodation can be at 40 Sudanese pounds (sh28,000). “More expensive accommodation is available for $50 (sh81,500) to $250 (sh407,500).â€
For the return journey, departure is at 7:30am and arrival at 11:00pm. The bus can carry 60 people.
He said Sudan’s weather is warm. A number of Ugandans are in southern Sudan working on the numerous reconstruction projects set up following the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement.
The peace agreement ended decades of war between the north and the south in 2005.
Previously, a trip to southern Sudan was done in phases. Sometimes, freight trucks were used.
Regional Bus’ terminal is on Plot 10 Johnstone Street in Arua Park, where many buses and trucks to the north operate from.
