KAKUNGULU Cup winners Victors FC have dispelled fears that the continental assignment might be too big for them.

Club owner Col. Jackson Tushabe has confirmed that the club has the resources to fulfill its international assignments.

“I am a man who plans ahead. I couldn’t have won a trophy without considering the challenges involved. I am prepared,” said Tushabe.

Victors are, by virtue of winning Uganda’s top knock-out competition, supposed to represent the country in the Africa Confederations Cup.

Ugandan clubs have in recent years struggled to finance themselves on the continent. The most recent was Express which almost failed to send a team to neighbouring Congo.

In 2006, Express won the Kakungulu Cup but opted out of the international race because of financial constraints.

Earlier on it was SC Villa, entered in the then CAF Club Championships. The Jogoos played up to the quarter-finals with Ivory Coast’s Asec Mimosas but failed to honour a return leg in Abidjan. The result was a $90,000 fine for Uganda.

“I have planned for the international season. I saw it coming,” Tushabe assured Ugandans.

The colonel, who has sunk over sh300m in the club this season, adds that his competitors must in fact not only think about the coming season.

“I want to keep that trophy for at least three years.”

Uganda will also be represented by KCC FC in the CAF Champions League.

Acting KCC chairman Godfrey Kisekka also ruled out any financial hardships for his club.

“We are an institutional club. So, the necessary financial backing is assured,” insisted Kisekka.

Government, until 1990, used to finance all the country’s clubs continental assignments.
