UGANDA has become a top destination for music superstars, no doubt. After Kirk Franklin last weekend, this weekend, people should get ready to blow the hoots for yet another international music bombshell, Collie Buddz.

The Mamacita singer will officiate at the launch of the Obsessions’ latest album, Beegonza, at Lugogo KCC Grounds behind Shoprite. Entry fee is sh50,000 for VIP and sh25,000 for ordinary tickets.

Collie Buddz (real names Collin Harper) is a US-born Bermudan artiste, who stepped into the limelight last year with his debut album Come Around. The album had several songs that blended hip-hop and soca (a rare mix) to make for sensual and awe-inspiring dance vibes.

The title track topped radio charts in Europe, the US, Canada and Japan, making Collie Buddz the most sought-after Caribbean artiste worldwide.

In Uganda, Collie Buddz is best known for his Shakira-inspired video, Mamacita. The video is receiving tremendous airplay on television channels and in discotheques around the city.

Remmy Lubega, the manager of the Obsessions says: “We picked Collie Buddz to perform at our album launch because he is in tune with the Obsessions.

His music is afrocentric, but sensual and the Obsessions could come in handy as his queen dancers.”

In the US and Jamaica, Collie Buddz has sung with Beyonce Knowles in the latest remix for Ring the Alarm, he has done collaborations with Busta Rhymes and the FlipMode Squad and has even lent vocals to Jamaican dancehall superstar Shaggy in his latest album Intoxicated.

Currently, the 25-year-old singer is hotly contesting for the prestigious EME Award for the Top International Artist-of-the-Year. Will he beat such reggae hot shots like Sean Paul, Stephen Marley and Buju Banton? We only have to wait until February next year to find out.

Born in New Orleans, in the US, Collie Buddz started singing in his childhood.

While in Bermuda, where he lived and studied, Collie Buddz got captivated by the lyrical wars between Buju Banton, Beenie Man and Bounty Killer.

Consistent encouragement from the various soundmen and engineers he encountered on those dub excursions led Collie to maintain a musical focus and eventually trek to Florida for a degree in audio engineering.

He later set up his own recording studio and has never looked back since. He recorded Mamacita a year before releasing it on his debut album Come Around.
