TWENTY-THREE year old Barbara Ahembise is the winner of sh100m in Celtel’s just-concluded Win and Live Like a Star promotion. After trying her luck more than five times, she received the life-changing call after her number was selected during the computer raffle draw held at Celtel House in Kampala on Friday.

“I am so surprised and overwhelmed, I don’t know what to say now,” she said on phone. The Celtel promotion has been on since April.

Ahembise joined other customers who have won between sh1m and sh20m in the daily and weekly draws.

“We believe today’s cash prize is a worthwhile investment capital in the winner’s future and will go a long way in improving her life in various ways,” Jamal Sultan, Celtel’s marketing executive in charge of consumer and pay phones, said during the draw.

Ahembise, a resident of Kamwenge, graduated in January with a Bachelor of Arts degree in education.

She said she was happy that now she could finally fulfill her dream of pursuing her Masters degree.

She will receive her cash prize on Wednesday. Ahembise is a volunteer with an international non-governmental organisation. She also hopes to help her family of eight with the rest of the money by investing it.

Celtel invested over sh1b in the promotion that has since seen some of the winners improve their businesses and set up new ones. A notable highlight of the promotion was the international artiste Akon’s concert, which was held on May 9.
