THE 192km Nimule-Juba Road in southern Sudan is going to be rehabilitated. The rehabilitation will be funded by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) through the Sudan Infrastructure Services Project, www.siteresources.worldbank.org website has said.

The Louis Berger Group Inc, the major project contractor, wants to pre-qualify civil works contractors for the work.

Nimule is on the Uganda-Sudan border, while Juba is the seat of the Government of Southern Sudan.

The road is all weather surfacing. The work includes placing 300 new boxes and pipe culverts and more than 1.8 cubic metres of rock excavation.

Riak Mayen Akol, the managing director of Regional Trade and Contraction Bus company, said: “We will be able to deliver our passengers more comfortably.”

The bus company plies the Kampala-Juba route.
Infrastructure in southern Sudan was destroyed during the two decades civil war between the north and south. Rehabilitation started after the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement in 2005.

USAID is playing a major role in building capacity for the Road Agency of Southern Sudan with other major donors. The construction of roads is facilitating other development projects.

Prequalification documents can be got from the Louis Berger Group for the attention of Francisco Perez at fperez@louisberger.com AFEI River Camp, southern Sudan for the attention of the contracts office. The deadline is July 7.
