THE deputy executive director of UNAIDS, Michel Sidibe, has commended Janet Museveni, wife of the President, for her outstanding contribution to the struggle against HIV/AIDS in Uganda and globally.
Meeting Mrs. Museveni on Wednesday at State House Nakasero, Sidibe praised her message to the youth on the ABC strategy and other efforts on curbing the dangers of HIV. State House said Sidibe also commended her for supporting orphans.
Sidibe is one of the international delegates attending in the on-going second HIV/AIDS Implementers’ Meeting at the Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala. Mrs. Museveni and her visitor discussed issues of prevention and treatment of AIDS, its scope and effects, especially on sub-Saharan Africa.
The First lady told Sidibe that stakeholders were concerned about the stagnating prevalence rates and the presence of new infections in Uganda. She noted that the population needed to be given clear messages that emphasise preventive measures.
The messages, Janet noted, must be designed carefully, putting into consideration the social aspects of communities.
Mrs. Museveni appealed to UNAIDS and other organisations involved in the struggle against the AIDS pandemic to focus on reaching the youth, especially in rural areas.
