THE Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA) has been launched in the country.

The International Law Institute (ILI) in Uganda entered into a partnership with ICSA to launch the professional body.

The ICSA is useful for business, company law, corporate governance, management, finance, accounting and administration and company secretarial practice.

It is similar to the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA).

Swithin Munyantwali, the ILI executive director, said the new partnership would be essential in ensuring good financial systems and improving the rule of law.

The chief executive officer of ICSA International, Roger Dickinson, said: “No other professional body in the business area offers the breadth of knowledge, which the ICSA qualifying scheme provides.”

Dickinson said the institution has over 36,000 members in 70 countries worldwide, which help governments to improve corporate governance.

“Chartered secretaries are high ranking-professionals who are trained to uphold the highest standards of corporate governance, effective operations, compliance and administration.”

He said chartered secretaries are the primary sources of advice for conducting businesses.

Dickinson said their advice spans everything from legal advice on conflicts of interest, through accounting advice, to the development of strategies and corporate planning.

Dickson pointed out that chartered secretaries are employed as chairpersons of organisations, chief executives and non-executive directors as well as managers and company secretaries.
