NATIONAL Council of Sports (NCS) has ordered Uganda Amateur Boxing federation (UABF) to hold an extra-ordinary assembly without fail on June 22.

This, they argue, is aimed at resolving the current constitutional anomalies that have stalled boxing governing body’s activities.

Last month, 17 clubs resolved to boycott UABF activities following a decision to raise affilition fees from sh20,000 to sh520,000.

The clubs are also bitter at an earlier move to extend UABF executive term of office from two years to four.

The clubs said this provision was smuggled into the federation constitution.

At a meeting held at Lugogo yesterday and chaired by NCS technical committee chairman Julius Zziwa, the clubs rejected council’s appeal to end their boycott.

The clubs insisted that they can only do so after their grievances are addresssed.

UABF was represented by the vice president (technical) Stephen Aciga spokesman Sande Musoke, and rganising secretary Charles Kiiza.

Former UABF presidential candidate Justin Juuko and former boxer turned politician Godfrey Nayakana attended the meeting.

Federation president Roger Ddungu or his vice in charge of administration Ntege Ssengendo who were expected to attend the the meeting were absent.

Zziwa told the meeting: “The UABF constitution was tampered with. UABF members have never ratified it. We are going to put UABF in order.”

“We are going to do constitution editing in order to resolve the disagreements.”

Some UABF officials who preferred anonymity, blamed Ddungu’s style of administration for their failure to perform their respective duties.

At the same time, NCS has summoned Ddungu and his entire executive for a meeting on day yet to be named.
