Dear aunt,
I am 27 years old and employed. I have been dating a 32-year-old married man, for two years. But his promotion at work came with so many problems for me. He started driving a company car, hanging out in posh places, insulting me and ignoring me.

Several times he pushed me out of the car because we had a disagreement. For so many months, I would call him and he would ask the receptionist to tell me he was too busy take my call and that he was not paid to talk to me. He also changed his mobile number. I will never forget when he refused to pay my medical bills when I did not have money.

Hardly two months after his confirmation, his contract was terminated. I was the first person he called to tell his tragedy.

Now he wants to come back in to my life. He says his friends have deserted him. I forgave him, but I do not want him in my life again.

I believe God will give me my own partner. Was it my fault to have loved him despite all the problems we went through?

Please advise me accordingly.
Desperate Z.R.

Dear Z.R,
You seem to have reached a turning point in your life. It is like you stumbled into a ditch, only to realise that there should have been a better route to take. It is evident that this man is not interested in you. You cannot be in a relationship where your needs are not met whatsoever. He is instead trying to use you to meet his insufficiencies. This is a very selfish attitude, and it shows that he does not respect you. You ought to fight for your personal dignity. Giving your heart to be broken in such a manner is not worth the effort.
Take a drastic step and make it clear to him that you have made a decision to let him go. You do not owe him any other explanation. For the moment, focus on what lies ahead, because the handsome ‘prince’ may come your way soon.
