SCOUTS and guides should be self-reliant, the commissioner general of the Uganda Scouts Association, Dr. Maggie Kigozi, has said.
Kigozi said scouts and guides must learn to work hard and protect the good image of the movement.
“You should emulate your predecessors, who served the country with diligence and dedication.â€
She was last week speaking at a memorial service for the deceased scouts and guides at Christ the King Church in Kampala.
Some of the fallen scouts and guides honoured during the service were former minister James Wapakhabulo, MPs Betty Okwir and Emmanuel Pinto, Rubaga Division chairperson Winnie Makumbi and priests Fr. Gregory Ataraga, and Fr. Henry Nsubuga.
Bishop Emeritus Edward Albert Baharagate of Hoima diocese, who led the service, advised the scouts and guides to be charitable.
“The departed scouts performed acts of charity and were a family. This is what you should also emulate.â€
