MOST portable devices that can play MP3 format require one to use earphones. But the MP3 docking station is a portable independent music system with it’s own speakers. Instead of a CD or tape, it uses an MP3 player which is inserted into its dock. It is then amplifies the music saved on the player.
MP3 docking station is small enough to fit in a purse. “The primary advantage of an MP3 docking station is that it is able to turn your portable music device into a home stereo-system.
An MP3 docking station has in-built speakers that allows your stored music to be heard throughout the room,†says Adnan Budhani, the manager at Damanico on Kampala Road.
The MP3 docking station is a simplified gadget to work with because it eliminates some of the bottlenecks involved in saving and listening to music. For example, instead of continuously saving music on CDs that can hold no more than 18 songs; the MP3 format is only restricted by the size of the player in use.
This means that if you have a two gigabyte MP3 player, you will be able to save thousands of songs and even create favourite playlists.
Each MP3 docking station is designed to be compatible with MP3 players, which eliminates the hassle of plugging and unplugging a cord directly into the player. The docking station has the ability to recharge the MP3 player.
The price for an MP3 docking station varies. Most are sold separately. “At Damanico, the docking stations are sold separately from MP3 players at sh39,000,’’ says Budhani.
However, for those that love branded combinations, we also cater for them,†Budhani added. Other features that can be found on the MP3 docking stations include: USB ports for all-in-one functionality, audio-visual (A/V) outputs for hooking up multi-function storage devices for picture viewing and one-touch syncing and organisation of stored media.
MP3 docking stations may not be compartible for all brands of MP3 players. Check before you buy a docking station.
