WINFRED Kahonda, a specialist in bridal wear with D2i Designs in Kampala, says when choosing a wedding ring, one should pay attention to every detail.
Kahonda adds that the design of the ring says a lot about one’s personality and taste.

For instance, plain rings without design, commonly known as the traditional wedding rings, are ideal for people who fancy simple, but smart things. For those who go with the trend, the engraved wedding rings come in handy.

However, she advises people to inquire from their churches about the design because some churches are particular and insist on traditional wedding rings.
Prices for the rings vary depending on the cost of production, the metals used, the width and design.

For example, gold wedding rings are expensive. Gold represents the warmth and love of marriage and it has a lifetime guarantee.

Ajay Dodia is a dealer in gold jewellery at Jit Jewellers. He advises people to buy rings from recognised dealers to get genuine stuff. Prices for gold wedding rings range from sh100,000 upwards.

Ajay adds that you can have your rings personalised, with your names and date of wedding written on the inside for free.
He advises that those who want rings with designs should choose wide rings to bring out the designs well.

There are also guaranteed rings. These are coated with gold and take up to two years before fading. Guaranteed rings serve a short-term purpose. If the couple is cash-strapped, guarantee rings are an ideal option for the church function while arrangements are being made to acquire the gold ring.

However, guarantee rings should not be exposed to cosmetics containing hydroquinone because they fade fast. Guarantee gold rings cost between sh30,000 to sh40,000 in shops on Luwum Street.

You can also opt for silver rings. These do not fade and are easy to clean. The cost of a silver ring ranges from sh20,000 upwards at Jit Jewellers outlets and bridal shops around town.

Rosemary Kitaka, a bridal designer, advises that brides choose a wedding ring that matches and sits comfortably with the engagement ring because both rings are worn on the same finger after the wedding.

Kitaka adds that small rings suit small hands while people with big-boned hands should opt for wider rings.
