BUSINESS at Kalungi Plaza on William Street yesterday came to a standstill after the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) sealed off the premises.

“We were not warned. We came to work this morning and found the premises locked and guarded,” said Ismail Lubega, a tenant in the shopping complex, which is allegedly owned by Moses Kalungi, the Makindye chairman.

URA demanded over sh1.5b from the owner of the building, which accumulated from unpaid Value Added Tax (VAT) and Income Tax. Efforts to talk to Kalungi yesterday were fruitless.
