UTODA’s move is not only outrageous and demonstrates cheap thinking but is outright illegal. Only the Bank of Uganda has the power to ban the use of any legal tender in the country.

Some time back someone described UTODA as a horde of “musomo gwagaana” (school drop-outs). At that time, I thought that was insulting.

However, for UTODA to resolve in a mere meeting that they have banned the use of sh50,000 note in their taxis, is to fully vindicate the writer. Doesn’t UTODA have what in the corporate world is called a Company Secretary?

Let someone advise them that it is impossible for them to ban the use of any legal tender. They have no mandate to do so.

Passengers are at liberty to use any legal tender in Uganda. UTODA should devise other means of fighting fake notes without inconveniencing travellers by issuing illegal statements.
