Ddungu sacks three
Uganda Amateur Boxing Federation (UABF) secretary and publicist Sande Musoke, organising secretary Charles Kizza and executive member Hellen Erikodi have been sacked by president Roger Ddungu.
Uganda Amateur Boxing Federation (UABF) secretary and publicist Sande Musoke, organising secretary Charles Kizza and executive member Hellen Erikodi have been sacked by president Roger Ddungu.
In the wake of bickering that has been going on in the association, Ddungu dropped the three and announced their replacements at Lugogo yesterday.
Former UABF president Vickey Byarugaba replaces Kizza, David Kyambadde is the new general secretary/publicity, while Miriam Kalule is in charge of women boxing.
Ntege Ssengendo and Steven Aciga retained their vice presidents posts.
Godfrey Nyakaana, Ayub Kalule and Bob Kasule were appointed technical advisors to the president.
“They were acting against the code of conduct which they themselves passed. Their case has already been tabled before the disciplinary committee for action,†Ddungu explained.
The sacked officials backed a petition to National Council of Sports (NCS) calling for the resignation of Ddungu.
The hand-written petition, signed by officials from 17 clubs, accused Ddungu of smuggling new articles in the constitution, failure to organise events on the calendar and a general assembly.
According to the new UABF constitution, clubs are supposed to pay an affiliation fee of sh0.5m, which sparked off the protests. The clubs formerly paid sh20,000.
Ddungu argued that when clubs walked out of the elective assembly in 2006, members who remained passed the constitution.
“There are no registered clubs. There is no way we can hold an assembly without registered clubs. There’s no way you can fight Ddungu when you don’t exist. If they want to fight me, let them register first,†Ddungu stated.
The city tycoon said Ugandan boxers have been actively involved in local and international competitions which have cost sh661m since he was elected in 2006.
