EDITOR—On Monday you published a letter entitled “Minister’s nod is a legal requirement in NSSF Act”. The NSSF public relations officer Victor Karamagi was commenting on a letter where Johnny Rukundo had dismissed as “bizarre” the requirement that increasing the interest of NSSF’s contributors required the finance minister’s approval.

Rukundo was quite right. The fact that the law says so does not mean it is reasonable or fair. In fact it is time the monopoly of NSSF was challenged in court by the contributors.

The Government has no right appointing NSSF board members when it does not own a shilling in NSSF! What do our MPs do if they cannot repeal this law? Is it because they do not belong to NSSF?

NSSF monopoly is ridiculous and must end. There is no sense in talking of ‘social security’ when our savings are being gobbled up by inflation with the knowledge and approval of the Government!
