NEW offices and a classroom block, worth sh185m, have been inaugurated in Amuru district by the northern Uganda state minister.
On Tuesday, David Wakikona also commissioned teachers’ houses worth sh40m at Got Ngur Primary School.
The houses were built by a German donor under the Northern Uganda Rehabilitation Programme.
Wakikona was surprised that the district lacked a court and promised to contact the justice minister over the matter.
Earlier, the resident district commissioner, Edwin Yakobo Komakech, noted that because the district lacked a court and prison, it was hard for the authorities to punish wrongdoers.
“Because we don’t have a court in the district, cases have to be handled in Gulu, which even has a congested prison. We need a magistrate who can come to this place at least once or twice a month,†Komakech appealed.
Amuru was carved out of Gulu on July 1, 2006.
